Hey there! There are cheaper teas in London that are really just as good! And also, if you book afternoon tea through lastminute.com, you can get 2 for 1s or special deals like free champagne and things like that. I'm American and had never had a proper afternoon tea til I moved to London - I am convinced this is just about the best British tradition on earth! ;-) Where are some good places in Scotland for afternoon tea?

Sorry to take so long to get bck to you Neil. This is a neglected blog I fear. A bit of cyberdust which I don't look at very often. I'll need to return soon.

This photograph is not my own. I think I would have purchased the right to use it from Dreamstime but this is so long ago I can't remember. They will have photos of chocolate there although this one may no longer be displayed.

If it is not to late for you, you'll find them at

Hello,

Would it be possible to use the above picture of the chocolate bar for our charity fundraising campaign? It's a great image and would really compliment our highly conceptual advert. We can offer no financial incentive if you agree as we are a not-for-profit company but you can be assured that your input is helping to raise awareness for those in poverty.

Please get back to me ASAP if you could as we're finalising the campaigns soon.

Regards,
Neil Barclay

The secret to ayrshires is simple.
The seed potatoe is Epicure.
The genuine ones are still grown around the Girvan coast, in fact this is where they origionate, but nowadays anything grown in Ayrshire (and sometimes out of it) is being classified as "Ayrshires" which they are clearly not. If you want to purchase the real thing you need to head to Girvan between june & july latest.
If you wish to grow them yourself you need sandy soil, then around Sept. turn the soil over and lay FRESH seaweed, prefrably 'Red kelp' which can be spotted at the lowest part of the shoreline where the sea never goes out. you can also use the brown variety is most likely to be seen half way down the beach.
This is left to rot for about 6 weeks, then the soil should be turned again and this time overlaid with 'Green' seaweed which can be found at the top of the shore again this is left over the winter, before planting in the spring turn the soil again and plant your seed potatoes, harvest mid June till mis July.
Enjoy.

I've heard debates that egg yolk is and isn't a good hair conditioner. A hairstylist I knew said that it wasn't, since the proteins in the yolk were too big to penetrate the hair. However, the yolk contains all the fat, not the protein in the egg. Likewise, the yolk contains lecithin, which helps emulsify oil. From personal experience, I've found egg yolk conditioner to work great, but mostly as a vehicle for getting oil into my hair. I usually eat a big egg white omelot in the morning, and dump all the yolks into a small, reusable bottle (about 6 yolks). I dump in about 1/2 to 1 tbsp (yes, tablespoon) of olive oil, or another oil if the olive oil is too "fragrant" (extra virgin can smell pretty strong sometimes). Add a few drops of essential oils, like lemon, lilac or some other mix. Add a couple of tbsp of hot water, then shake that sucker like crazy. I take that to the shower with me after I eat breakfast, and use it as a hair and body conditioner. Works great. I rinse it out when I'm done, so the egg yolk isn't sitting there getting germy. Next day, do it all over.

I have been searching the web for seed Ayrshires to plant but I've failed miserably. I would be interested if anyone else has found a supplier.

If no-one knows of an Ayrshire seed potato supplier, does anyone know where I can buy Ayrshires already grown?

No other potato come anywhere close for flavour.

Yours in eager anticipation

How do you tell the difference between the two? I have a packet of Nigella 'Chocolate Sundae' seeds which I am guessing is a Nigella damascena, but only because I would rather it were a Nigella sativa.
